One of my reasons for creating this web site was to
share what I have been taught and have learned myself over the years
with those of you just starting out. I have known a few people
interested in learning how to cook, but are a little "reluctant"
getting started.
So I thought it might be fun to start with some basics and build on
them, adding a little more each time as I learn more or hear from
other home cooks. Like building any structure, you start at the
foundation and build up. I'm not sure where this is going to go, but
it should be fun getting there. So please check back once in a while
to see what is new.
If you're already an experienced home cook or maybe a professional
that happened upon the page, don't hesitate to send me your ideas and
suggestions. One of the great returns I get from writing Benidorm Eats
is the feedback from people who visit. Of course I realize what I
offer on these pages represents only a tiny percentage of what there
is to learn, but I will always be happy to add onto it as I learn
more. If you want to learn more, check out my Cooking Techniques.
Cooking is great fun and not that difficult if you
learn some basic cooking techniques. Cookbooks and cooking magazines
are great sources for learning how to cook, but at the same time can
easily dissuade you from getting started and trying to be an
accomplished home cook. In my experience I found many of the food
articles written in cooking publications by professional chefs hard to
follow and difficult to understand. They assumed people knew a lot
more than they did at the time.
There are two basic reasons to learn how to cook. One, you have to
eat. Unless you can afford to dine out every night or hire your own
personal chef, there will be times when you will need to cook. So why
not learn how to do it well and save that ready made Bolognese sauce
in the jar for times when you are too busy to cook.
The other reason, it's a great hobby. Many of you may look at cooking
everyday as a tiresome task, something that has to be done whether you
want to or not. Hey, we all have days when we don't feel like
preparing a fancy meal and guess what....on those days you can order a
pizza or some other take-out food or make a simple bowl of pasta. But
there are plenty of simple basic recipes that don't take a lot of time
and I would be happy to serve to guests. My web site is full of quick
and easy recipes that you can make at the last minute.
Once you learn some simple basics and how easy it is to cook, it may
change the way you look at the daunting task of preparing daily meals.
So why not give it a go! Come on
here!
